Pretty Pillow Cases
Materials: for one case
1.) 3/4 yard main fabric
2.)3/8 yard trim fabric
3.)1 1/4 yards contrasting piping
Materials: for pair of cases
1.) 1 1/2 yards main fabric
2.) 3/4 yard trim fabric
3.) 2 1/2 yards contrasting piping
Directions:
1.) Cut the main fabric into a 24 inch by 40 inch*
2.) Cut the trim fabric into a 13 inch by 40 inch*
3.) Baste the piping to one long edge of the main fabric
4.) Stitch the trim fabric to the main fabric along the basing line of the piping. Press the seams toward the trim fabric.
5.) Hem the raw edge of the trim fabric.
6.) Fold the trim to the inside, covering the stitching.
7.) On the outside of the case, top stitch in-the-ditch along the piping seam. this stitching secures the folded trim fabric.
8.) Make a French seam:
a.) Fold the stitched fabric in half, wrong sides together.
b.) Stitch along the top and side edges, using a 1/4 inch wide seam allowance.
c.) Turn the pillowcase wrong side out.
d.) Stitch, using a 1/2 inch wide seam allowance.
9.) Turn right side out. Press.
*If your pillows are very puffy, increase the length to 42 inches.
