Fabric Canning Jar Covers

Materials Needed:

1.) Fabric Scraps----7 inch circles for wide mouth jars or 6 inch circles for regular mouth jars

2.) 1/4 inch wide elastic 6-8 inches long

3.) Thread

4.) Ribbon and narrow lace or edging trim

Directions:

1.) Determine jar size

2.) Raid your kitchen cabinets for lids to match the measurement you need and us them as a template.

3.) Trace the circles on to the fabric and cut the circles. At this time if you choose to use a narrow lace or edging trim this needs to be sewed on or glued on around the fabric circle's edge.

4.) Fold fabric circle in quarters and mark the fold lines.

5.) Fold your elastic in quarters and mark the fold lines.

6.) Match the elastic and fabric fold lines, attaching the elastic 2 inches in from the original edge of the fabric. Use a zigzag stitch to attach the elastic, gently stretching the elastic as you sew it.

7.) Place the cover on a jar and tie a narrow ribbon around the jar. Tack the ribbon in place if desired.

Old Tie Angel

Two angels can be made from each tie by adjusting the measurements for the larger end of the tie. The smaller angel can be used as a pin, ornament, or wall hanger. An angel made from the large end of the tie would make a wonderful wall hanger.

Supplies:

1.) 14 inch measured from the narrow end of a tie including the point
2.) 6 inch round purchased doily
3.) 1.5 inch wooden knob
4.) 2 inches of lace for collar
5.) Small pearl or bead for collar
6.) 1/2 inch flat back pearl or bead for decoration
7.) 3 inch glitter chenille stem for halo
8.) Small amount of doll hair
9.) Flesh tone paint
10.) Paint brush
11.) Black fine line permanent pen for eyes and nose
12.) Blush and cotton swab
13.) White craft glue
14.) Needle and tread to match tie
15.) 3 inch narrow ribbon for hanger or a pin back

Instructions:

Cut the 14 inch piece of tie into 2 parts, the point end up 8 inches for the gown and 6 inches for the arms. Tie a single knot in the center of the 6 inch piece to form the folded hands, set aside.

Fold the cut end down 2.5 inches, place the cut ends of the arm piece under the fold with the knot centered on the front of the pointed piece. Stitch in place.

Cather the doily and stitch or glue to the folded portion of the back of the angel. Stitch ore glue the 2 inch lace collar to the front, just below the fold. Glue the smaller pearl or bead to the collar and the larger pearl to the front about 3 inches from the point. Set aside to dry.

Paint the knob and allow to dry. Draw the eyes and nose. Add a small amount of blush to the cheeks with a cotton swab.

Form a circle with the glitter stem and pinch the stem to give the halo a ruffled look.

Glue the fold of the tie under the front of the knob so it fits into the curve of the knob. Glue the hair in place and add halo. Glue or stitch the narrow ribbon folded int a hanging loop at the top of the doily wings. Glue the wing top and hanger loop to the back of the knob for added security. Add the pin back to the top of the fold in the tie through the doily wings.
